The Beacon Project: IslesboroBeason.org

About Our Organization

The Beacon Project was formed in April 2006 as a non-profit corporation with the primary goal of providing a way for the elderly residents of Islesboro to continue live and be active in their island community even after it is difficult for them to stay in their own homes. Our first step toward reaching this goal was to build a six-bedroom, Adult Family Care Home called the Boardman Cottage.

Our Mission

To make it possible for our elders to remain here on Islesboro with dignity and comfort as members of the island community.

Construction of the Boardman Cottage

With the strong support of numerous donors and volunteers, we began construction on the Home in the fall of 2004 and opened our doors to residents in July of 2005. Through various fund-raising activities the Beacon Project continues to provide over $65,000 annually to support the operations, maintenance, and improvements of the building and grounds.

In keeping with our mission, we are now offering transportation and other assistance to island elders who still live in their own homes.
