Services at Boardman Cottage

Boardman Cottage makes it possible for island elders to remain here on Islesboro with dignity and comfort as members of the island community.

Boardman Cottage provides Residential Care and Respite Care and will soon offer Adult Day Services.

Residential Care Services

The facilities accommodate six adults in private rooms with private half baths and provide full use of the living room, dining room, porches and kitchen. Three home cooked meals a day are provided and served family-style, taking into account personal preferences. Housekeeping, laundry, and purchasing of household supplies is provided. Trained staff offers assistance with personal care, medication administration, transportation, activities, supervision and companionship to the residents.

Each resident is given an assessment to determine their personal care needs. Fees are based on the amount of assistance each resident requires. Assistance will be provided for each applicant in securing a funding source. The daily rate is $165.00-$205.00 a day. Boardman Cottage is a MaineCare provider.

Respite Care Services

Twenty-four-hour care is available for short term stays, on a space-available basis, to provide rest for family members caring for their elders at home. Respite care consumers are provided with meals, assistance with activities of daily living, medication administration, activities, transportation, supervision and companionship. As with long term residents, skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy services can be provided at the Boardman Cottage by mainland home health agencies. Respite care can be from one 24-hour day to several weeks at a time.

The rate for respite care is approximately $165 dollars per day depending of the amount of care required. MaineCare will cover this cost for those who qualify.

Adult Day Services

Soon Boardman Cottage will be able to take additional elders each day to participate in health monitoring, rest, and personal care services in addition to meals, activities, medication administration, supervision, and companionship. This program will be available to any elder living on Islesboro who wishes to spend a day with others, share a meal, and participate in activities. Through this program, family members can go to the mainland for the day knowing their elder is in a safe environment.

The rate for adult day service is $16.00 per hour. There is an application and assessment process involved. Contact us to see if this program will meet your needs.
